Having struggled with poor academic performance throughout his schooling at Methodist Boys' High School, Lagos and Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo, Otedola's parents enrolled him in boarding school in an attempt to refocus his efforts on education. However, his interests remained in the realm of commerce rather than academics.

Leaving school, he joined his father's printing business, Impact Press, and by the young age of 25, he had become the managing director. His desire for greater challenges led him to ask for a sales consultant position on commission, which he describes as a pivotal moment in his career. He utilized vehicles for marketing purposes and quickly gained the attention of large corporations and advertising agencies, thereby laying the foundation for his future success.

Otedola's story serves as a testament to the fact that success can be achieved through various pathways and that formal education is not always the sole determinant of one's potential. His experience underscores the importance of recognizing and nurturing individual strengths, regardless of academic background. Today, he stands as a prominent figure in the Nigerian business community, serving as the chairman of a major financial group and proving that determination and entrepreneurial acumen can lead to remarkable achievements.
