The Prime Minister of Fiji, Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka, recently commissioned the Uluinatabua Teachers Village in Natabua, Lautoka. This housing project is a collaboration between the government and the Fijian Teachers Association Cooperative Thrift Limited (FTACTL), aiming to provide secure and affordable homes for teachers and their families.

The Uluinatabua Teachers Village spans over 12.25 acres and includes ten cyclone-certified houses with a mix of four three-bedroom and six two-bedroom homes. Each home comes with a 99-year lease on a 0.25-acre plot of land. This initiative is part of the government's broader iTaukei Empowerment Framework, which was launched to support indigenous Fijian businesses and communities.

The Prime Minister highlighted that this project goes beyond just providing houses; it's about empowerment, dignity, and collective efforts for a better future. He praised the FTACTL for their vision, trust, and partnership in making this project a reality. The project is aligned with the coalition government's goals of improving housing, food security, and livelihoods across the country.

This is the first of several cooperative housing projects planned under the FTACTL, with similar developments already underway in Nadi (Narewa Teachers Village) and further plans for Nausori, Navuso, and Serua. The government sees this as an exemplary model for future collaborations that can benefit various sectors and communities in Fiji.

The event underscores the importance of collective efforts and cooperation in achieving sustainable development and empowering local communities. The Uluinatabua Teachers Village serves as a tangible symbol of progress and a foundation for other initiatives that aim to enhance the quality of life for Fijian citizens.
