Fiji and India commemorate the 79th Independence Anniversary, reaffirming 55 years of friendship.

Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and his wife Mrs. Sulueti Rabuka attended the 79th Republic of India Independence Day celebration at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva. The event marked 55 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. India's High Commissioner to Fiji, Suneet Mehta, reflected on the strong ties built on shared democratic values, people-to-people connections, and mutual respect. He also mentioned significant milestones, such as the upcoming State Visit of Indian President Droupadi Murmu to Fiji and various joint initiatives like the construction of a 100-bed Super Specialty Hospital and an MOU on Pharmacopeial Cooperation. Fijian Chief of Protocol Mrs. Kiti Temo acknowledged India's continuous support in health, education, and capacity building, expressing Fiji's commitment to enhance collaboration in trade, renewable energy, and cultural exchange. The celebration was well-attended by cabinet officials, diplomats, and members of the Indian community in Fiji.
