The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a notorious 36-year-old drug kingpin, Sunday Ibigide, along with his accomplice, Clement Osuya, in Asaba, Delta State. This arrest comes three years after Ibigide went into hiding. The duo were found in possession of 250 blocks of skunk weighing 138kg.

During a week-long operation between August 10th and 16th, the agency's operatives carried out several raids across the country, resulting in significant seizures. In Rivers State, particularly at the Onne Port, they confiscated 875,000 bottles of codeine syrup and 3.5 million pills of opioids with a street value of N7.8 billion. These drugs were found hidden in a container that originated from India and was destined for a pharmaceutical company in Lagos.

Additionally, the NDLEA reported the destruction of cannabis farms in Enugu and Taraba states, amounting to 48,750kg of the illicit substance. In other parts of the country, such as Gombe, Kogi, Kaduna, and Taraba, a total of 538,980 pills of tramadol were recovered. In Lagos, a mother and her son were apprehended with 149kg of cannabis.

Furthermore, the agency reported successful operations in Enugu, where they found a cannabis warehouse with 113kg of the substance; Kano, where they arrested a suspect with 400kg of cannabis; Edo, where they nabbed a suspect with 220kg of skunk; and Badagry, Lagos, where they discovered 220kg of skunk and 33,000 tablets of tramadol.

The NDLEA's Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised the officers involved and called for continuous efforts under the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign to combat the menace of drug trafficking and abuse in the country.
