Yesterday, a brazen display of reckless driving led to a high-speed pursuit through Calgary, resulting in the arrest and charging of a 33-year-old man. The incident began at approximately 11:10 a.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2025, when a patrol officer attempted to stop a motorcycle without a licence plate on 17th Avenue S.E. near 31st Street S.E.

Instead of complying with the traffic stop, the motorcyclist fled the scene, driving onto a sidewalk and pedestrian pathway leading into a park. After navigating through the park, the motorcycle re-entered the road, reaching alarming speeds of up to 200 km/h while disobeying multiple traffic lights and signals. Despite additional attempts to stop the vehicle, the motorcyclist continued to evade police.

The pursuit finally came to an end when the motorcycle stopped on Range Road 23 north of Highway 772, at which point the suspect fled on foot. With the assistance of the Alberta RCMP, the suspect was apprehended and taken into custody around noon.

Joshua Daniel Poirier, 33, now faces a slew of charges, including flight from a police officer, dangerous operation, driving while disqualified or prohibited, and multiple counts of failure to comply with release and probation orders. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, August 18, 2025.

The Calgary Police Service is urging anyone with information about this incident to come forward. Witnesses or individuals with knowledge of the event are encouraged to contact the CPS at 403-266-1234 or Calgary Crime Stoppers.
