"A Message of Hope and Gratitude to the People of Newfoundland and Labrador

As the forest fire season continues to affect our beloved province, Carl and I want to extend our ongoing support and hope to all residents of Newfoundland and Labrador who have been displaced or affected during these challenging times. You are in our thoughts, and we are deeply grateful for the resilience and strength you have shown in the face of adversity.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincerest gratitude to the volunteers, community organizations, first responders, and public servants who are working tirelessly to address these wildfires. Your dedication to assisting those in need is truly commendable, and we pray for your safety as you continue to serve our communities.

In the midst of these challenges, we were delighted to attend two significant events over the weekend that celebrated the rich cultural diversity and sporting spirit of our province. On Saturday afternoon, we participated in a vibrant celebration with the Igbo Cultural Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, where we were treated to traditional music, dancing, crafts, and cuisine. This wonderful event provided a unique opportunity to learn about and appreciate the Igbo culture, and we are grateful for the warm hospitality extended to us.

On Friday night, we attended a welcome reception for the 2025 Canada Games and a Hall of Honour induction ceremony. This event was a chance to welcome visitors to our beautiful province, express our gratitude to everyone involved in organizing this significant sporting event, and congratulate the latest inductees into the Canada Games Hall of Honour. In my remarks, I emphasized the importance of creating a warm and welcoming environment for all visitors and locals alike, and I am confident that the next two weeks will be truly remarkable.

As a symbol of our support and enthusiasm for the 2025 Canada Games, Government House will be illuminated tonight and on select evenings during the Games in the colors of red, yellow, and blue. We invite everyone to join us in this festive celebration, and we look forward to seeing the spirit of Newfoundland and Labrador shine bright throughout the Games.

Once again, we offer our sincerest appreciation to everyone involved in the fight against wildfires, and our heartfelt support to those who have been affected. We are proud to stand together as a community, and we are confident that together, we will overcome any challenge that comes our way."
