The Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction and sentencing of Ademola Ayobani Idris to three months in prison for internet fraud. He was found guilty of posing as an American recruiter named Mike Samorano on Google email, with the intent to deceive and gain advantages for himself. The case was heard before Justice D.I. Idris pleaded guilty to the one-count charge against him under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015. An EFCC operative, Kamal Musa Jubril, presented the case's facts, stating that Idris had been involved in online employment fraud and had obtained contact details of his victims through the Craigslist app. The accused had also confessed to receiving approximately $400 from his fraudulent activities.

The court admitted his extrajudicial statements, the iPhone 15 Pro Max used in the crime, and the forensic investigation's printouts as evidence. Besides the prison sentence, Idris was also ordered to forfeit N300,000 in restitution and the phone involved in the fraud to the Federal Government of Nigeria. The conviction serves as a deterrent to others engaged in similar cybercrime activities.
