New York City Mayor Eric Adams has declared a state of emergency due to severe flooding caused by torrential rains. The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) has shut down the Port Washington line, and residents are advised not to drive and to move to higher ground if they are in a basement. The National Weather Service has warned of 2 to 3 inches of rainfall per hour, with total accumulations reaching up to 8 inches, leading to life-threatening flash floods and significant disruptions across the Tri-State area. The Clearview Expressway in Queens has also been inundated with water, leaving vehicles stranded. New York Governor Kathy Hochul has echoed the emergency declaration, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation and advising residents to stay safe and follow emergency protocols.
