We are glad to see that CUSMA-compliant goods continue to be tariff-free, including the majority of Alberta's exports to the U.S., such as all oil, gas, and agricultural products. However, it is disheartening to note the increase in tariffs on other Canadian products to 35%.

These tariffs negatively impact both
Canadian and American businesses and workers, undermining one of the world's most vital trade and security partnerships. In recent months, she has engaged with numerous governors, senators, members of Congress, and supporters of the current administration. I firmly believe that the way to achieve a favorable resolution with our U.S. partners is through strong, consistent diplomacy and a shared commitment to our mutual priorities. One thing is crystal clear: Canada must strengthen its economy. The federal government needs to promptly repeal the restrictive resource development laws established during the Trudeau era, which hinder our economic growth and explore opportunities to diversify and expand our export markets. The current Liberal government has yet to take these necessary steps, leading to tens of millions in lost economic activity each day. I urge Premier Smith and the federal government to persist in negotiations to address these tariff challenges and to restore a free and equitable trade agreement with the United States, all while bolstering the Canadian economy by fully leveraging our exceptional natural resource sector.
