"Canada's immigration system is at a crossroads. While our country has a long-standing tradition of welcoming newcomers, the current approach is neither sustainable nor just. The recent reduction of Alberta's provincial nominee program by 50% is a prime example of the disconnect between Ottawa's policies and the needs of provinces. This move not only hinders our ability to attract the skilled workers essential to our economy but also highlights the need for a more decentralized approach to immigration.

Meanwhile, the influx of nearly 2 million newcomers last year has put significant pressure on our already strained housing, healthcare, and education systems. This is not only unsustainable but also unfair to both the provinces and the newcomers who are trying to build a new life in Canada.

It's time for a common-sense solution that prioritizes economic migrants and gives provinces the authority to address their own workforce requirements. By doing so, we can ensure that our immigration system serves both newcomers and the communities that welcome them. A responsible and sustainable approach is long overdue, and Alberta is calling on Ottawa to work together to find a better way forward.

The frustration with the current system is palpable, and it's time for change. We need a system that balances the needs of our economy with the capacity of our social services. Only then can we ensure that newcomers are set up for success and that our communities can continue to thrive. It's time for Ottawa to listen to the concerns of provinces and work towards a more sustainable and just immigration strategy for all Canadians."
