Telus Scrambles to Restore Connectivity Following Copper Line Thefts

In the wake of a series of brazen copper line thefts, Telus is working around the clock to restore connectivity to over 3,500 homes and businesses in Calgary. The incident has left a trail of disruptions, causing significant inconvenience to residents and business owners alike. Among those affected is the Lakeview Husky service station, a beloved fixture in the Lakeview neighborhood of southwest Calgary for 60 years.

For manager Michael Swab, the past few days have been a nightmare. "The phone usually rings 15 to 20 times a day, depending on the season," he explained. But when he arrived at work on Monday morning, the phone was eerily silent. It wasn't until Wednesday that he was able to reroute calls to his cellphone, but by then, the damage had already been done. "In those three and a half days, we've likely lost thousands of dollars in business," Swab lamented.

The Lakeview Husky service station is just one of many properties affected by the wave of copper thefts that have disrupted Telus services. According to Anne Martin, Telus' Vice President of Network & Engineering Operations, "This is a major problem that poses risks to public safety." The thefts have raised concerns about the growing trend of copper line thefts in the area, highlighting the need for increased vigilance and cooperation to combat this issue.

As Telus works to restore connectivity, residents and business owners are left to deal with the consequences of these criminal actions. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of protecting critical infrastructure and the need for collective efforts to prevent such crimes from occurring in the future.
