Hungary's oldest library is striving to rescue 1,000 books from a beetle infestation

In an effort to protect them from a beetle infestation that threatens centuries of history, tens of thousands of ancient books are being removed from the shelves of a medieval abbey in Hungary. The beetle problem was discovered during a routine cleaning of the library. Staff observed unusual dust accumulation on the shelves and then found burrow holes in the spines of several books. When they opened the volumes, evidence of beetle damage was visible in the paper as well.
