The Department of Justice (DOJ) under the leadership of Secretary Jesus Crispin "Boying" C. Remulla has taken legal action against two major corporations, E.D.

Buenviaje Builders, Inc. (E.D.Buenviaje) and Synergy Sales International Corporation (SSIC), for their involvement in deceptive tax schemes. The companies are accused of transacting with ghost companies, Buildforce Trading, Inc. and Decarich Supertrade, Inc., which were used to generate fraudulent official receipts to support their fictitious claims and reduce tax liabilities. This move is aligned with the government's commitment to Real Justice for All and is a direct response to the Bureau of Internal Revenue's (BIR) uncovering of these tax evasion activities.

The BIR had previously identified these ghost companies and brought the matter to the DOJ's attention, which found probable cause to charge the corporations and their respective officers: Ernesto S.D. Buenviaje and Ruselle Anne A. Buenviaje of E.D.Buenviaje, and Arthur See and Betty Lim See of SSIC. The accused individuals are facing charges under Sections 254 (Attempt to Evade or Defeat Tax) and 255 (Failure to Supply Correct and Accurate Information) of the National Internal Revenue Code (NIRC) of 1997, as amended. If found guilty, their tax evasion efforts could result in a significant financial penalty, with the total civil liability estimated to be around Php 73,327,789.20, not including any additional legal penalties that may be imposed.

This collaborative effort between the DOJ and BIR showcases the government's determination to combat tax fraud and uphold the rule of law, as emphasized by Secretary Remulla. He praised BIR Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui, Jr., for their shared commitment to protecting the nation's financial and economic systems from such illicit activities. The case serves as a reminder to all taxpayers about the importance of complying with tax laws and the serious consequences that come with tax evasion.
