Earlier this evening, a helicopter contracted by Alberta Wildfire experienced an accident during landing at the Slims Creek wildfire base, located north of Manning. The pilot, who was the only individual onboard, has been transported to the hospital for medical attention. We are deeply concerned about her well-being and are keeping her in our thoughts and prayers for a swift and full recovery.

This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the significant risks that wildfire responders and their contractors face every day in their tireless efforts to protect our communities and natural resources. Their bravery and commitment are truly inspiring, and we are indebted to them for the sacrifices they make.

In light of this event, we want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our personnel and those working alongside us is of the utmost importance. A dedicated team of mental health professionals has been deployed to the fire base to provide support to all individuals affected by this incident. They are available to offer counseling and assistance in coping with any stress or trauma that may arise.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has been notified and will be conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the accident. In addition, Alberta Wildfire will be launching an internal review of our procedures and operations to identify any potential areas for improvement to further enhance safety for all those involved in our wildfire management efforts.

We will provide updates on the situation as more information becomes available. However, please respect the privacy of those involved and the ongoing investigation by refraining from speculation and sharing unverified details.

We are grateful for your understanding and support during this challenging time. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your supervisor or the designated incident support liaison.

Thank you for your dedication and service.
