Yesterday, Her Honour had the privilege of attending a significant event at 5 Wing Goose Bay, where the command was passed from one esteemed individual to another. The change of command ceremony was presided over by Brigadier General R.J. Walker, the esteemed leader of 1 Canadian Air Division. The reins of the base were transferred from the capable hands of the outgoing commander, Lieutenant Colonel A.M. Sajan, to the ready and eager Lieutenant Colonel W.A.C. Brake.

Lieutenant Colonel Brake's appointment marks a special homecoming, as he hails from Newfoundland and Labrador. His deep-rooted connection to the region is likely to bolster the already strong bonds between the military and local communities. The ceremony was a testament to the enduring spirit of service and the seamless transition of leadership that is a hallmark of the Canadian Armed Forces.

During his tenure, LCol. Sajan demonstrated exceptional leadership and an unwavering commitment to collaboration with the people of Labrador. His efforts have not gone unnoticed, and he departs 5 Wing with the gratitude of all those he worked alongside. His dedication to the wing's dual mission of training and NORAD operations over the north and northeast coasts of Canada has been instrumental in maintaining the security of the nation.

As LCol. Brake assumes command, he brings with him a wealth of experience and a profound sense of responsibility. The wing plays a crucial role in Canada's defense, supporting training activities and ensuring vigilant watch over vast expanses of airspace. His leadership will be essential in continuing the tradition of excellence established by his predecessor.

On behalf of all those who have worked with LCol. Sajan and the community that has benefited from his service, we extend our heartfelt thanks and wish him every success in his next endeavor. At the same time, we warmly welcome LCol. Brake and anticipate great achievements under his guidance. This event is a poignant reminder of the selfless dedication of our military leaders and the vital work they undertake to safeguard our country.
