The role of an Aide-de-camp (ADC) is an honorary position in the Australian Defence Force (ADF) that involves providing assistance and support to the Governor-General, the Chief of the Defence Force, and other high-ranking officials. These officers are selected from the three branches of the ADF: the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), the Australian Army, and the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). Their duties include, but are not limited to:

1. Acting as a liaison between the ADF and the office of the Governor-General, ensuring efficient communication.
2. Organizing and coordinating military ceremonies, functions, and events.
3. Accompanying the Governor-General on official engagements, both within Australia and overseas.
4. Providing advice and briefings on military matters and protocol.
5. Carrying out administrative tasks and managing the official schedule of the Governor-General.
6. Representing the ADF and upholding its values and traditions.

The Aide-de-camp serves for a period of one year, and the current ADCs are:

- Flight Lieutenant Jamie Thanjan from the Royal Australian Air Force.
- Captain Katie Higgins from the Australian Army.
- Lieutenant Tiffany McCormack from the Royal Australian Navy.

These officers are chosen for their exceptional service, leadership qualities, and professionalism. They play a crucial role in maintaining the ceremonial and operational links between the Australian Defence Force and the nation's highest office, contributing to the continuity of government and national security.
