Housing over 55 million physical records and 9 terabytes of digital archives from more than 150 Australian agencies and institutions, the Archives narrates our national narrative — encompassing countless everyday moments as well as significant historical events.

Director-General Simon Froude extended an invitation to the Governor-General and Mr. Beckett SC to tour the Archives' state-of-the-art preservation facility, prior to Mr. Beckett's announcement as Patron of the Archives Members Program at the public museum.

During their visit to the facility, they observed restored photographs from World War II, the original designs for Canberra by Walter Burley Griffin, the Larrakia Petition, and the plans for Government House.

Subsequently, at the museum, they were presented with earlier versions of the Great Seal of Australia and Royal Warrants issued by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II that authorized its use.

We extend our gratitude to Simon and the exceptionally skilled team for their efforts in preserving our nation's memory and ensuring it remains accessible to all Australians — both now and for future generations.
