Regardless of the presence or absence of illnesses, brain health refers to the condition of brain functioning throughout the cognitive, sensory, social-emotional, behavioural, and motor domains that enables an individual to reach their full potential throughout their life.

Our brains develop, adapt, and deal with stress and adversity in different ways depending on a variety of factors including physical health, healthy settings, safety and security, lifelong learning, social connections, and availability to high-quality services or care. These are replaced with life course prevention and promotion programs. By addressing these determinants, brain health can be optimized to promote not only physical and mental well-being but also good social and economic effects that enhance society as a whole.
