Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has called on US immigration forces, specifically U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), to refrain from taking any action against fans attending the Mexico vs. Dominican Republic Gold Cup soccer game at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Saturday.

This request comes as a response to a since-deleted social media post by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), which had indicated a strong presence at the Club World Cup matches. CBP clarified that it regularly provides security at major sporting events and that its mission remains unchanged.

Meanwhile, downtown Los Angeles is under curfew following nearly 400 arrests and detentions made by the LAPD since last Saturday, primarily for failing to disperse. Some more serious charges have also been reported, including assault against police officers and possession of weapons. The tension is heightened due to ongoing ICE operations in the city, which have led to the apprehension of several convicted criminals who are in the country illegally. These arrests have sparked protests and riots, prompting President Donald Trump to deploy National Guard troops to protect federal immigration officers.

The situation in LA remains a concern as local authorities and federal agencies navigate public safety and the enforcement of immigration laws.
