A key aspect of the Governor-General's responsibilities involves meeting with Ambassadors and High Commissioners prior to their overseas assignments or upon their return to Australia for mid-term consultations.

These gatherings provide a chance to discuss Australia's strategic foreign policy goals, gain insights into the progress of bilateral relationships, and offer support to our representatives abroad who are dedicated to enhancing diplomatic connections. This week, the Governor-General had the pleasure of welcoming the Hon Dr Kevin Rudd AC, Ambassador to the United States, to Government House from Washington, DC. Recently, the Governor-General has also hosted:
🇻🇳 Ms Gillian Bird PSM, Ambassador to Vietnam
🇻🇦 The Hon Keith Pitt, Ambassador to the Holy See
🇵🇬 Mr Ewen MacDonald, High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea
