Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has responded to the decision by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) to require the decommissioning of 64 Tesla Superchargers on the New Jersey Turnpike. The move comes as the NJTA has chosen a single third-party company to provide electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions along the roadway, effectively shutting out Tesla's own Superchargers. Musk took to X, stating that the decision "sounds like corruption."

The Tesla Supercharger Network is known for its reliability and efficiency, with a high rate of upkeep, making it a convenient choice for EV drivers. The decision to remove these chargers, even though they are accessible to various car brands, not just Tesla vehicles, seems counterintuitive to supporting the growing number of electric vehicles on the road. Despite this setback, Tesla has prepared for such a scenario by constructing 116 alternative charging stalls near the Turnpike to ensure that its customers and other EV drivers can continue to charge their vehicles without interruption.

The NJTA's decision may be seen as a controversial move, especially considering the increasing popularity of electric vehicles and the need for widespread charging infrastructure. It remains to be seen what the long-term implications of this decision will be for the EV market in the region and how it may affect the relationship between Tesla and the state of New Jersey.
