The Miss World contestant taking on knife crime

Millie-Mae Adams, a 22-year-old medical student and Miss World contestant, has used her platform to raise awareness about knife crime among young people. Growing up in Caerau, Cardiff, she was exposed to gang violence at a young age and later founded a branch of the charity Street Doctors while studying at the University of Exeter.

Street Doctors trains young individuals to handle the aftermath of street violence, particularly knife-related injuries. Ms. Adams emphasized the importance of equipping young people with the knowledge to react to such situations, believing that everyone deserves a chance to be prepared for potential emergencies. Her advocacy for this cause earned her first place in Europe for her presentation at the Miss World festival in India. The final Miss World competition will be held on May 31st. Knife crime is a significant issue in the UK, with Wales seeing 50 offences per 100,000 people in the year ending December 2024. Despite the seriousness of the issue, it is important to maintain perspective and avoid demonizing all young people, as the vast majority do not engage in such behavior. Addressing the root causes of social exclusion and deprivation is key to preventing knife crimes in the future.
