Time of Occurrence: Shortly before 12:30 pm

Location: Highway 417 near Parkdale

Description of the Incident:
An Ottawa OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) cruisher was involved in a rear-end collision today on the congested Highway 417. The police vehicle was stationary in heavy traffic at the time of the accident. Despite the unfortunate circumstances, the police officer and the driver of the other car walked away from the scene without any injuries.

The other driver has been charged with Following Too Closely, which is a traffic violation that carries a fine of $110 and two demerit points upon conviction. This incident serves as a stark reminder for motorists to exercise additional caution when driving through construction zones, where traffic patterns are frequently altered and can lead to sudden stops.

Safety Advice:
- Maintain a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead, especially in heavy traffic.
- Refrain from making abrupt lane changes to avoid potential collisions.
- Stay focused on the road and keep mobile devices out of reach to minimize distractions.

The OPP are using this opportunity to remind the public of the importance of being vigilant and respectful of road conditions, particularly in areas under construction. These zones often have reduced speed limits and require increased attention to ensure the safety of all road users, including officers performing their duties.
