The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) releases a report stating that Iran has significantly increased its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, bringing it closer to the threshold needed for a nuclear weapon.

The confidential report, seen by Reuters and the Associated Press, also concludes that Iran previously carried out secret nuclear activities with undeclared material at three sites that were part of an undeclared structured nuclear program until the early 2000s. The findings are likely to intensify concerns about Iran's nuclear intentions and compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), from which the United States withdrew in 2018. The report comes amid stalled negotiations aimed at reviving the deal, with Iran and the remaining signatories attempting to reach an agreement on restoring mutual compliance. The increased stockpile and the revelation of past undeclared activities are expected to add urgency to these talks.
