Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the 37-year-old daughter of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, has been chosen as Thailand's youngest-ever Prime Minister. Her appointment was confirmed after the dismissal of former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, who was removed by the constitutional court. Paetongtarn is the fourth member of her influential political family to become Prime Minister in the past two decades, following in the footsteps of her father, Thaksin, and her aunt, Yingluck Shinawatra.

Despite her relatively short political career, Paetongtarn has quickly risen through the ranks of the Pheu Thai Party, which she joined in 2021. She became the party leader in October 2023, leading a new, younger generation of politicians as the party seeks to maintain its influence amid growing competition from younger, progressive parties like the Move Forward Party.

Her leadership marks a generational shift within the Pheu Thai Party, with many of the new executive members being in their 30s and 40s, reflecting an effort to appeal to younger voters and rejuvenate the party's images.
