The Cross River State Police Command in Nigeria plans to conduct a disarmament operation in the communities of Biakpan and Etono in Biase Local Government Area due to the ongoing violence and non-cooperation with peace efforts.

The commissioner of police, Olusegun Omosanyin, stated that the communities have experienced less than 40 deaths in the last three months as a result of the clashes. Despite interventions by various security agencies and individuals, the situation has not improved, leading to the decision for a major operation.

The commissioner had previously summoned the local government chairperson and traditional rulers, as well as youth leaders from the communities, but their non-compliance has prompted a stronger response.
The police aim to restore peace and order in the area, with the support of other armed forces if necessary. The conflict is believed to be over a Supreme Court judgment regarding land ownership between the two communities.
