PRESIDENT RAMAPHOSA ARRIVES IN THE UNITED STATES FOR WORKING VISIT WITH A FOCUS ON BILATERAL, ECONOMIC AND COMMERCIAL RELATIONS

President Cyril Ramaphosa has arrived in Washington DC today, Monday 19 May 2025, for a working visit to the United States of America. This visit aims to reset and revitalize the strategic partnership between South Africa and the US, with a strong emphasis on enhancing bilateral, economic, and commercial ties.

During his stay, President Ramaphosa will hold a series of high-level engagements, including a meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday, 21 May 2025. The discussions will focus on exploring new avenues for collaboration and identifying mutually beneficial opportunities that can bolster the economies of both nations.

The President is accompanied by a high-level delegation, which includes:

- Mr. Phelela Lamola, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation;
- Ms. Stella Ntshavheni, Minister in the Presidency;
- Mr. Thulas Nxesi, Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition;
- Mr. Pieter Mulder, Minister of Agriculture; and
- Mr. Mcebisi Jonas, Special Envoy to the United States of America.

This visit underscores South Africa's commitment to fostering closer relations with the US and advancing the interests of the African continent. The two leaders are expected to address various issues, including trade and investment, infrastructure development, energy cooperation, and regional security.

The visit also serves as an opportunity to strengthen the historical ties between South Africa and the US, particularly in the context of the longstanding friendship and shared values that have underpinned our relationship for decades.

President Ramaphosa's delegation will engage with US government officials, the business community, and other key stakeholders to discuss how to deepen our strategic partnership and promote sustainable growth and development.
