NDLEA seizes drugs, firearms in multiple raids across Nigeria

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Nigeria has reported a series of successful raids and arrests in its ongoing efforts to combat the illicit drug trade and associated criminal activities. The seizures and arrests highlighted in the statement from the NDLEA's Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, span several days in May 2025 and cover various locations across the country.

On May 16, 2025, the agency intercepted a 29-year-old suspect named Ismail Isah along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway with an AK-47 rifle and two magazines hidden in a maize sack. He will be transferred to the relevant security agency for further investigation.

In Taraba State on May 15, a 22-year-old named Shafiu Ismail was apprehended with 5,350 pills of tramadol and diazepam in the Sabon-layin area of Jalingo Local Government. Meanwhile, in Jigawa State, Tijjani Mohammed, 35, was caught with 198 kilograms of skunk in Malamawa.

In Niger State, a Toyota Carina carrying 316 blocks of skunk weighing 143 kilograms was stopped, leading to the arrest of 35-year-old Idris Kamal. The same day, in Kano, Emmanuel Hassan, 26, was caught with 14.3 kilograms of loud, and the consignment's owner, 39-year-old Bello Aliyu, was also apprehended.

Additionally, a 60-year-old man, Welman Kengbo, was detained in Nasarawa State on May 16 with 594.8 kilograms of skunk, while 67.5 kilograms of the substance were confiscated from Oyenuga Toheeb in Lagos State on May 15.

The NDLEA's commitment to the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) was also evident in its educational and preventive efforts.

The agency conducted sensitization lectures in various schools, including Supreme International School in Fagge, Kano; Al-Arifeen International Academy in Kaduna; Nadado Primary School in Bakori, Katsina; Ila Orangun Grammar School in Osun; and Government Secondary School in Onne, Rivers State. These outreach programs aim to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and its negative impacts on individuals and communities.
