This program is designed to alleviate the impact of recent economic reforms on vulnerable populations. The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Director General, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, made this announcement at a press conference held at the NIMC headquarters in Abuja.

The revalidation exercise was conducted under the National Social Safety Nets project, which aims to provide financial support to those in need. Coker-Odusote mentioned that the process has now cleared over 2 million households to receive the cash transfer payments. She emphasized the importance of precise identity verification in delivering social interventions effectively.

The NIMC is collaborating with other government agencies to ensure that the funds are disbursed to the correct recipients. The director general highlighted that the objective is to prevent payments from being made to deceased individuals or those not truly in need. She underscored the significance of a reliable identity management system for the successful implementation of such programs.

The conditional cash transfer is part of the government's broader social investment strategy, which includes initiatives like school feeding, job creation, and healthcare support for the poorest citizens. These efforts are intended to reduce poverty and enhance the standard of living in the country.
