In his initial comments regarding Operation Sindoor, which involves Indian military actions within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, Trump remarked on the prolonged conflict between the two nations, stating, "They've been fighting for a long time—many, many decades and, actually, centuries. I just hope it ends very quickly." The Indian armed forces conducted missile strikes early Wednesday in response to the Pahalgam massacre, where terrorists from Pakistan killed 26 individuals. Nine terror targets were hit during the operation, including Bahawalpur, the base for the Jaish-e-Mohammad group. The Defence Ministry described these missile strikes as part of "Operation Sindoor," emphasizing that they were focused, measured, and non-escalatory. In reaction to the strikes, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attacks, labeling them an "act of war" and asserting the right to respond decisively. The Indian statement on Operation Sindoor clarified, "No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted. India has shown considerable restraint in its choice of targets and execution methods." Shortly after the strikes, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh posted an affirmation of support for India on social media, stating, "Long live Mother India! (Bharat Mata Ki Jai)." In response, Pakistan Army spokesman Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry reported that the missile strikes occurred in areas like Kotli and Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Bahawalpur in Punjab. He stated, "India launched air strikes in the Ahmed East area of Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad. All of our air force jets are airborne." Chaudhry added, "This cowardly and shameful attack was carried out from within India's airspace.
They have never been permitted to intrude into Pakistan's airspace." He concluded with a warning: "Let me say it unequivocally: Pakistan will respond to this at a time and place of its own choosing. This heinous provocation will not go unanswered."
