I extend my congratulations to Prime Minister Mark Carney on his election victory in forming a minority government last night. I also want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Pierre Poilievre for his strong and principled stance against the punitive taxation and anti-resource policies of the past decade. These policies have weakened our country, deepened divisions, and made us overly reliant on the United States. Mr. Poilievre's vision for a safer, more affordable, united, and prosperous Canada has shaped the policy discussions in our nation over recent years and has inspired millions to recognize the unique potential of our country.

While the Liberals and New Democrats have sought to demean and vilify Albertans, our values, and industries for political advantage, Mr. Poilievre made it a priority to empower Albertans and support our energy sector throughout his campaign. His respect and appreciation for Albertans were evident. He is, and remains, a true ally of Alberta. As Premier, I urge the Prime Minister to promptly engage with our government to redefine the relationship between Ottawa and Alberta through meaningful actions rather than empty rhetoric. A significant number of Albertans are understandably frustrated that the same government which has aggressively attacked our provincial economy for nearly a decade has returned to power. As Premier, I will not allow the status quo to persist.

Albertans take pride in being Canadians who desire a strong, prosperous, and united nation, but we will no longer accept threats to our industries or have our resources constrained by Ottawa. In the upcoming weeks and months, Albertans will have the chance to discuss the future of our province, evaluate options to strengthen and protect ourselves against future adversities from Ottawa, and ultimately decide on a path forward. As Premier, I will lead and facilitate this important dialogue with the sincere goal of securing a prosperous future for our province within a united Canada that honors our constitutional rights, promotes rather than obstructs the development and export of our plentiful resources, and treats us as a valued and respected partner in confederation. Our government is convening a special caucus meeting this Friday to explore this issue further. I will have more to share following this meeting.
