In preparation for Anzac Day, the Governor-General and Mr. Beckett SC attended the Commonwealth, Irish, and French memorials to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign. Joined by partners and friends at the French War Cemetery and Cape Helles Memorial, they laid wreaths and placed carnations on the graves of the fallen, united by a shared commitment to honor and preserve the memory of those who served.

Near Anzac Cove, the Governor-General and Mr. Beckett SC stood alongside the Turkish people at the Abide Martyrs Memorial, reflecting a common dedication to remembering those who served and sacrificed at Gallipoli, while acknowledging the profound pain, loss, and suffering endured by all parties involved in the campaign. The commemoration powerfully reinforced our obligation to remember and recognized the enduring connections forged on once-divided soil in the name of peace. Türkiye's Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mr. Gokhan Yazgi, eloquently captured the spirit of the event: "It is the most meaningful expression of peace and shared human values that nations who faced each other 110 years ago in Gallipoli, one of history's most challenging trials, come together here with the understanding of 'yesterday's foes, today's friends.'"
