As reported by the South China Morning Post, Chinese scientists have successfully detonated a hydrogen-based explosive device during a controlled field test, resulting in significant chemical chain reactions without the involvement of nuclear materials, as detailed in a study released last month. The 2kg (4.4lbs) device produced a fireball that exceeded 1,000 degrees Celsius (1,832 degrees Fahrenheit) for over two seconds—15 times longer than similar TNT explosions—without utilizing any nuclear components.

This device was developed by the 705 Research Institute of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), which plays a crucial role in the development of underwater weapon systems, and it employs a magnesium-based solid-state hydrogen storage material.
