PRIME MINISTER RABUKA MEETS WITH TONGAN PRIME MINISTER

In a bid to enhance the Pacific Vuvale, Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka, held a meeting today with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga, Honourable Dr. 'Aisake Valu Eke.

This bilateral meeting marked the first encounter between the two leaders and took place during the TROIKA Leaders gathering at the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort in Nadi.

The discussions allowed both leaders to identify opportunities for strengthening bilateral cooperation and regional collaboration between their island nations and the broader Blue Pacific region.

Key topics included enhancing cooperation in trade and investment, connectivity, defense and security, climate resilience, and fostering people-to-people connections, among other mutual interests.

Prime Minister Rabuka extended a warm welcome to the Tongan Prime Minister and his delegation, reiterating Fiji's dedication to expanding both bilateral and regional partnerships with Tonga.

He expressed gratitude for Tonga's ongoing support to Fiji and conveyed optimism regarding the potential for further collaboration.

Both parties also addressed the importance of enhancing development cooperation and strategically aligning their engagements to focus on the key priorities of both nations.

In promoting the Ocean of Peace Concept, the Prime Ministers concurred that this initiative represents a Pacific approach to fostering unity, solidarity, and prosperity both regionally and globally.

In response, Prime Minister Dr. Aisake Valu Eke expressed appreciation to PM Rabuka for the opportunity to engage in discussions aimed at bolstering their bilateral cooperation.

The meeting concluded positively, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to creating a resilient and sustainable future for the peoples of the Pacific.
