The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has announced its partnership with prominent anti-corruption bodies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), to promote transparency and accountability within Nigeria's procurement systems.

During a national stakeholders' workshop in Abuja, BPP Director-General Dr. Adebowale Adedokun shared this initiative with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) focused on procurement reforms. He underscored that this collaboration is designed to mitigate corruption and enhance the management of public finances.

Dr. Adedokun revealed intentions to release an updated list of approved CSOs authorized to oversee procurement activities, indicating that Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) will no longer have the autonomy to select CSOs independently. A directive will be issued shortly, instructing MDAs to engage only with BPP-sanctioned CSOs.

The Director-General emphasized the critical role of CSOs in fostering transparency, encouraging them to serve as monitors, advocates, and collaborators in the reform process. He also pointed out that initiatives such as the Nigeria Open Contracting Portal (NOCOPO) have significantly enhanced transparency, despite ongoing challenges.

Additionally, the BPP is collaborating with the Ministry of Justice, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and other stakeholders to establish a more robust contract management framework aimed at addressing project delivery challenges and minimizing financial risks to the government.
