According to Major Zhakom, the spokesperson for OPSH, the operation began when soldiers discovered an abandoned vehicle in Mararaban Kantoma, located in the Mangu Local Government Area, around 9 p.m. on April 13. Following this discovery, a search of the vicinity led to an exchange of gunfire with the kidnappers, who eventually fled the scene, leaving their captives behind.

The operation culminated in the safe recovery of all 16 individuals, including six children, who were treated for minor injuries at the site. Subsequently, the victims were escorted safely to Jos, while the troops continued their pursuit of the fleeing kidnappers.
