What is the rationale behind a Canadian Premier giving interviews to the right-leaning news outlet Breitbart?

Recently, the Premier of Alberta disclosed that she requested Donald Trump to "put things on pause so we can get through an election." This can be interpreted as "a Canadian Premier soliciting a foreign government to intervene in an election campaign to benefit the party and the federal leader she endorses," as noted by Gary Mason of the Globe and Mail yesterday.

Mason further cites Premier Smith's comments from the Breitbart interview: "the perspective that Pierre Poilievre's federal Conservatives bring would be very much in sync with, I think, the new direction of America.

" What exactly does this "new direction" in America entail, if not an assault on Canada's economy in hopes of compelling us to acquiesce to American annexation? It is utterly appalling.
