For 75 years, the Australian Nurses Memorial Centre (ANMC) has served as a testament to the strength and bravery of Australian nurses.

Founded in 1950 by nurses Vivian Bullwinkle and Betty Jeffrey, who survived the Bangka Island Massacre during World War II, the ANMC was established to honor the valor and sacrifices of nurses who participated in wartime and humanitarian efforts, particularly those who did not return home.

What started as a site of commemoration has evolved into a vibrant 'Living Memorial' that focuses on the future through the provision of postgraduate scholarships, educational opportunities, and professional development. Thanks to the generosity of donors, these scholarships help ensure that the upcoming generation embodies the same dedication to care and excellence.

We extend our sincere gratitude to three nurses who reflect the compassion and vision of Vivian and Betty: ANMC Patron Emeritus Professor Judith Parker, President Dr. Elizabeth Lavender, and Vice President Emeritus Professor Maxine Duke AM. Their efforts in welcoming the Governor-General, sharing the inspiring story of Vivian and Betty, and presenting a thoughtful gift of a poppy scarf to be worn on Anzac Day are deeply appreciated.
