Brad Wall, the former Premier of Saskatchewan, Buffalo Project member, and father of musician Colter Wall, shares his thoughts on the upcoming federal election. "I anticipate a federal election will be announced tomorrow. It pains me to see the fear surrounding a potential Liberal resurgence.

Elections are significant. The outcomes often differ greatly from the initial polling predictions. In my view, this election may be one of the most crucial of my lifetime. If the Carney-led Liberals are re-elected, western Canada can expect to face disadvantages for at least the next four years. Why do I believe this? Consider the following: The Liberal government imposed a tariff on Chinese electric vehicles, despite the minimal imports into Canada, to protect the Central Canadian EV industry. They are trying to salvage a failing electric vehicle battery plant in Quebec using Canadian taxpayers' money. Meanwhile, their decisions led China to impose a 100% tariff on western Canadian canola and eastern Canadian seafood. Every day that this situation persists, every day the Liberals fail to repeal the EV tariffs that harm the much more vital canola industry, they are prioritizing the political dynamics of our asymmetrical confederation. This term, used by academics and those who support the status quo, describes a system that treats some provinces 'more equally' than others. With each passing day, they are choosing to favor the central Canadian economies, where most parliamentary seats are located, over the objectively more significant sectors like eastern Canadian seafood and western Canadian canola. Furthermore, the Liberals have confirmed that their emissions and production limits on western Canadian oil and gas will remain in place, along with a new hidden carbon tax that disproportionately affects the western oil and gas sector.

If the Liberals win this election, we can expect more of the same. This outlook will undoubtedly lead to increased feelings of alienation in western Canada, and understandably so." -- Adapted from Mr. Wall's Facebook post dated Saturday, March 22, 2025.
