He has undoubtedly voiced his worries about the accusations made by Alberta Health Services' former CEO. Those accusations are serious, and they are being thoroughly investigated, as I have stated time and time again. In order to provide us with answers as soon as possible, we have promised the Auditor General our government's complete cooperation and help in accelerating his review. In order for us to fully comprehend what transpired with respect to the AHS procurement procedures in question, I have also instructed our senior civil service to hire a very reputable third party with a solid legal background who can look into this issue outside of the government. Additionally, we wish to ascertain why, in spite of months numerous demands, AHS never presented the government or the health minister with any substantial proof or supporting paperwork. I would like to restate that I had no say in these procurement choices and that I am not aware of any misconduct pertaining to the concerns brought up by the former CEO.

My course of action was simple: we all believed that AHS would follow the government's policy choice to increase surgical capacity in order to address the pressing problem of wait times. We are still dedicated to reducing surgical wait times, expanding the number of surgeries that the province performs with public funding, and carrying out the crucial task of redirecting our health care system to
better serve Albertans.
