Arctic air can   deliver  frigid temperatures to Alberta,   in particular  all through  the   wintry weather .

How it   takes place
The polar vortex is a counterclockwise   glide  of air that   continues  bloodless  air   close to  the poles.
During   wintry weather , the polar vortex can   amplify  and   ship  bloodless  air south with the jet stream.
This   bloodless  air can invade southern latitudes for   some  days   earlier than  withdrawing  north.

Temperatures can   sense  like -40°C in   components  of Alberta.
Wind   sit back  could make  it   sense  even colder.
Extreme   bloodless  may be  dangerous,   in particular  for   outside  activities.
