November 29, West Palm Beach, Florida (Reuters) - Prior to meeting with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has reportedly landed in Palm Beach, Florida. There is no mention of Trudeau's planned trip to Florida on his official agenda.

Requests for comment were not immediately answered by Trump's aides or Trudeau's office. Trudeau was in Florida to meet with Trump, according to the Globe and Mail newspaper in Canada, which cited two unnamed sources. Later, according to a source cited by CNN, Trump and Trudeau would dine together at his Mar-a-Lago club on Friday night. Trudeau is accompanied by Dominic LeBlanc, Canada's Minister of Public Safety, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. On Monday, Trump threatened to raise import duties by 25% from Canada and Mexico until the nations clamped down on border crossings by migrants and drugs, especially fentanyl. Major business associations and officials from China, Canada, and Mexico have cautioned that Trump's proposed high tariffs will hurt the economies of all participating nations, increase inflation, and hurt job markets. Any negative impact on the Canadian economy would compound Trudeau's problems at a time when his popularity has declined, partly as a result of a faltering economy and a sharp increase in living expenses in recent years. According to polls, the opposition Conservative party would defeat Trudeau's Liberals in the election, which is scheduled for late October 2025. This, Trudeau asked for a meeting with the premiers of all ten Canadian provinces to discuss U.S. relations and vowed to remain united in the face of Trump's tariff threat.
