I believe that President @realDonaldTrump and the tens of millions of Americans who supported him have legitimate worries about drug smuggling and illegal immigration at our shared border, even if I am against any tariffs on Canadian or American goods. The federal government and every province that borders the United States must move immediately to severely crack down on these illegal border operations, even if we are aware that the situation at the Mexican-U.S. border is far more urgent. This is beneficial for the  Canada and the United States. In addition to making this very clear to the Prime Minister, I also told him that Alberta will be taking immediate and serious action to patrol our shared border with Montana; further information will be released shortly. In order to further strengthen our military and economic ties with the United States, I also stated that the federal government must aggressively increase compliance with our nation's NATO commitments to spend 2% of GDP on our armed forces. Additionally, I made sure the Premiers and Prime Minister realized how crucial it is to acknowledge the next administration's dedication to energy security and that Alberta is in a unique position globally to be the ideal partner to the United States in accomplishing that goal. Therefore, the federal government's decision to implement a ceiling on energy output that would drastically reduce the amount of oil that is supplied to the US is completely stupid. In order to demonstrate my commitment to North American energy security and cooperation, I requested the prime minister to immediately remove this energy production cap. My Ministers and I will be making a concerted effort in the upcoming months to connect with our U.S. allies who are working with the incoming U.S. administration and Congressional leadership in order to strengthen our energy and economic partnership and to continue the work that Premiers nationwide are actively doing to fortify our country's border security.
