3 people dead, 2 injured after head-on collision in Welland, Ont.

A transit bus and a pickup vehicle collided head-on, resulting in three fatalities and two injuries, according to provincial police.

The collision occurred on Highway 58 in Welland, Ontario, at approximately 10:21 p.m. on Saturday.


According to first accounts, the pickup truck struck the bus head-on, flipping it over and setting it on fire. According to the police, the driver and two passengers were both declared dead at the spot.

The bus driver suffered severe, potentially fatal injuries, and was evacuated to a hospital, according to the police. At the time of the incident, there were two other people aboard the bus; one was brought to a hospital with critical injuries, while the other was released from the site.
