Suicide attempt by a 59-year-old man foiled by police .

In Birmingham, Alabama, several alleged gunmen opened fire in a popular nightlife area, leaving at least 4 dead and over 20 injured.


Numerous persons were discovered shot on Saturday night about 11 p.m. in the Five Points South neighbourhood of Birmingham on 20th Street near Magnolia Avenue. This information was reported by the AP and AFP.


A fourth victim was declared dead at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital, while three victims were declared dead at the scene.


With lots of dining options, pubs, and entertainment venues nearby, the shooting scene is known for its lively nightlife and draws sizable crowds on the weekends.


As of this writing, no one had been taken into custody in the case, and reports suggest that police suspect multiple shooters to have been involved.


Several US agencies are involved in the investigation, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The area where the mass shooting took place has also been cordoned off.
