The Federal Government has requested that the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) postpone its planned nationwide strike set for Monday, September 8, 2025. This request arises from a dispute with the Dangote Group regarding the unionization rights of its employees.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, urged NUPENG and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to retract the alert issued to affiliated unions, noting that the Ministry has intervened and organized a conciliation meeting to address the issue. Dingyadi highlighted the critical role of the petroleum sector in Nigeria's economy, stating that even a single day of strike could lead to significant revenue losses and hardship for the public.
