Google will retain ownership of its Chrome web browser but is required to share data with competitors, according to a recent ruling by a US federal judge.

The decision made by District Judge Amit Mehta comes after a lengthy legal dispute concerning Google's dominance in the online search market.

The case focused on Google's status as the default search engine on various products, including its own offerings like Android and Chrome, as well as those from companies such as Apple.

While the US Department of Justice sought to compel Google to divest Chrome, the ruling allows the company to maintain control of the browser. However, it now faces restrictions on exclusive contracts and must share search data with its competitors.
