The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has increased the fees for Nigerian Standard Passports, with the new rates becoming effective from 1st September 2025. This fee adjustment, as communicated by the Service's Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, is only applicable to passport applications made within the country.

The new fee structure is as follows:

- The fee for a 32-page passport booklet has been increased to ₦100,000 (Naira) for adults.
- For children, the fee remains at ₦60,000 (Naira).
- The fee for a 64-page passport booklet for adults has been set at ₦200,000 (Naira).

Please note that these prices are subject to change as this information is based on an announcement from the NIS, and actual fees may differ at the time of application. It is advisable to check the latest fee schedule on the official NIS website or at a local passport processing center before submitting your application to avoid any inconvenience.

This fee increase is likely to be a response to various factors, including changes in operational costs, the need for revenue generation, and possibly improvements in service delivery and passport booklet quality. The NIS may also allocate additional funds to enhance security features and combat passport-related crimes, such as counterfeiting and trafficking.

The implementation of these new fees reflects the service's commitment to providing a more efficient and secure passport issuance process for Nigerian citizens. It is essential for applicants to ensure they are aware of the current fees and requirements to prevent any delays or issues when applying for a passport. Additionally, it is recommended that travelers apply for their passports well in advance of their planned travel dates to allow for sufficient processing time.
