In a bizarre incident that unfolded in the deep southeast of Calgary on Friday afternoon, a man who had wandered into a construction site and fallen asleep was rescued by the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) after being partially buried under a massive load of soil.

According to eyewitnesses, the man, who was not a worker at the site, lay down on the ground around 12:45 p.m. and dozed off, remaining undetected by the construction workers who returned from their lunch break. Unbeknownst to them, they proceeded to dump a large quantity of soil, which buried the sleeping individual up to his torso, leaving only his upper body exposed.

The CFD rescue team was promptly called to the scene, where they treated the incident as a trench collapse and worked swiftly to extricate the buried man. The rescue operation took approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Although the man was transported to Foothills Hospital as a precautionary measure, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) reported that he was in non-life-threatening condition. The sheer weight of the soil that buried him was estimated to be over 1,000 pounds, equivalent to half a yard of soil.

Thanks to the prompt response and expertise of the CFD rescue team, the man's life was saved in this extraordinary ordeal. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of workplace safety and vigilance, even in the most unexpected of circumstances.
