"A Call to Accountability: The Urgent Need for Regulation and Reparation in the Face of Dangote's Negligence

As we stand at the gates of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Auchi, Edo State, our hearts are heavy with the weight of injustice. We have witnessed firsthand the devastating consequences of negligence and irresponsibility, as a 22-year-old woman lies hospitalized for 11 long months, a victim of an unlicensed driver behind the wheel of a Dangote truck. Her life, once full of promise and potential, has been irreparably altered, with medical bills mounting to a staggering 5 million naira.

Despite the gravity of this situation, Dangote has failed to acknowledge its responsibility, leaving the young woman and her family to bear the burden of their actions. This egregious neglect has compelled us, the people of Auchi, to take a stand. We cannot, in good conscience, permit Dangote trucks to operate in our community until all victims of unlicensed drivers receive the care and compensation they deserve.

We urge Mr. Aliko Dangote to take immediate action to address these concerns, which strike at the very heart of his company's operations in Edo State. The lack of regulation and oversight of his drivers has created a culture of impunity, putting countless lives at risk. It is nothing short of appalling that unlicensed individuals are permitted to operate trucks, often transporting multiple passengers, with seemingly no regard for their safety or well-being.

In an effort to protect our community, we have taken measures to restrict the movement of these trucks, ensuring they remain parked until after 9 PM, when residents are safely indoors. However, this is merely a temporary solution to a deeply ingrained problem. We demand that Dangote takes concrete steps to rectify this situation, implementing stricter regulations and safeguards to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.

The tragic accident that claimed the lives of six innocent people, allegedly caused by another Dangote truck, serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of negligence and inaction. It is our collective responsibility to hold accountable those who have failed in their duty to protect the public.

Furthermore, we cannot help but be concerned about the treatment of young individuals, particularly recent graduates, who may be vulnerable to exploitation. The continued disregard for those affected by accidents involving Dangote trucks demands immediate attention and action. We implore Mr. Dangote to take a proactive stance in addressing these issues, demonstrating a genuine commitment to the welfare and safety of all individuals affected by his company's operations.

The time for change is now. We will not stand idly by as the lives of our youth are irreparably damaged by the negligence of Dangote drivers. We demand justice, accountability, and a commitment to safety and regulation. Anything less would be a dereliction of our duty to protect our community and ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions."
